Head Guard

Head guard is one of the most important protective gear elements. Especially for boxers and in combat sports, where you have to keep your head intact at all time. It will absorb hits directed to your head and will protect you from hits to your head that will damage your brain. In boxing, hits are more inclined towards your head to knock you out. But at the same time, you head becomes vulnerable to brain damage which would lead to stress, internal bleeding, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. It is suggested that whenever you are training, always wear a head guard to protect your head.

The first thing you should look at when you are choosing a head guard is that it should cover which part of your head should be covered. Full face covered head guard will feel like a cage, but it will protect your head except for the ears. Another kind provides jaw protection as well. So the options are several for you to choose from. Make sure that whatever you choose, it doesn’t impact your visibility. More padding to the front means less visibility.

Secondly, the size of the head guard should be measured according to this chart:

Size of Head guard

Size of your head

Small

Less than 50cm

Medium

50 cm to 55 cm

Large

56cm to 58 cm

Extra-Large

58cm or more

Your head guard should be comfortable to wear and to fight in. it should be made of the highest quality leather with excellent padding which is very well proportioned so it protects your head from shocks. Choose quality over brand name and style any day. Your head matters.
